Mizelle Mayo is a multimedia journalist from Anchorage, AK.
She currently works at Alaska Public Media as the multimedia production associate since August 2022.
Mayo is graduated with her master’s degree in journalism and media at the University of Texas at Austin in May 2022.
Mayo’s graduate work can be viewed on NPR’s Next Generation Radio Texas Newsroom 2021 and Reporting Texas. She was a freelance video producer for the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin from 2021-2022. She was also a graduate teaching assistant for the University of Texas at Austin teaching photographic communication from 2020-2021.
She received her bachelor’s degree of journalism at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2018. She was awarded the “Max Llanes’ Behind the Camera” award in 2018.
Previous work can be viewed at The Northern Light, a student based newspaper at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where Mayo produced videos and took photos as the multimedia editor. She also was previously an assistant features editor for The Northern Light.
In her undergraduate degree, she contributed her writing and photographic work for Frontier Scientists and True North Magazine. Mayo was also a media intern for the Anchorage School District producing video stories about the 2018 school bond.
Mayo freelanced in 2019 editing promotional videos for Jensen Hall Creative and contributing her neighborhood experience in the hyperlocal magazine, The Spenardian.
Mayo enjoys the outdoors biking, hiking, camping and kayaking. Along on her adventures, she takes her nine-year-old dog, Theo, with her in his dog backpack.
